A ritual damaru that is designed for practitioners who are serious about using the most authentic instruments. Our Bhutanese damarus are in essence the same as a Tibetan or
Nepalese damaru, however, the quality of craftmanship far exceeds what is
currently in production in Nepal or elsewhere.
What makes these pieces so different?
- The tonality is superior!
- Created using accurate and traditional centuries old methods.
- Fine quality mature Bhutanese Sengdeng (Acacia) wood is used and not cheaper woods that are seen on other drums.
- Only natural unpainted Bhutanese skins are used. The skins are buried in the ground with copper and other precious substances. This process can take many weeks to complete. As a result of this, the skins turn a beautiful cloudy green. Which in turn increases the longevity of the skins and also empowers them for years of ritual use. It also gives each drum its own unique character.
- The skins will maintain their tightness, unlike many other damaru skins in the marketplace.
- On the inside of the drum accurate mantras are applied, this empowers the drum to be used in ritual practice.
- Each drum has a suede or leather handle which helps give comfortable support when playing for long periods.
- Includes a high quality brocade damaru tail.

The Tibetan damaru is a two sided drum and is considered an essential aid in Vajrayana ritual practice. Drums are usually made from wood and typically have goat skins. Human skull damarus are also very sought after, however, in recent years they have become more diffiicult to source. The sound of the damaru is viewed as a symbol of emptiness or shunyata. The two drums joined together also represent relative and ultimate Bodhicitta.
