A Thangka painting is a sacred work of art that is rich with symbolism. These traditional paintings are important supports for meditation and visualisation, and have been hung in Tibetan monasteries and Buddhist homes for centuries. We believe our thangkas are amongst the best available in the marketplace. All are traditionally mounted within a fine brocade frame. Each piece is hand selected for quality and checked thoroughly to make sure it is iconographically correct. Our finer works can take the artist several months to complete and in some cases many years.
We try our best to purchase directly from the artist, and not to buy from the lower quality Thangka wholesalers that are common in Nepal and India. This means greater financial support is given to the artists, which aids them to produce finer quality works. Due to paying a higher premium, we get a choice of only the best paintings. The quality of the more expensive thangkas is reflected in the standard of painting, the size of the piece, materials used (eg. 24k gold and stone pigment paints) and the higher standard of brocade frame. It is not difficult to see why our paintings are in the homes of practitioners and Buddhist centres all over the world.
We can also commission thangkas of Buddhas, deities, yidams, protectors and lineage gurus that may not be listed here. If you are interested in purchasing a Thangka that is not shown on our website, then please feel free to contact us. We will be delighted to help you. Photographs will never do these wonderful paintings full justice, however, if you do require further pictures to help your decision, please do let us know.
All of our thangkas are framed with brocade in the traditional manner.Sizes quoted are approximate. We also stock a small amount of antique Mongolian miniature paintings called Burhany Zurag. These were traditionally worn as amulets or kept in a portable shrine. Click paintings above to be taken to this category.
