RARE DHARMACHAKRA BELL & DORJE SET - Master Quality 5 Prong Iron Vajra & 5 Prong Iron Handle
RARE DHARMACHAKRA BELL & DORJE SET - Master Quality 5 Prong Iron Vajra & 5 Prong Iron Handle with hole
Our Price: £450.00

An extremely rare five prong bell and dorje set with iron handle and iron vajra -- Each set is made by a Tibetan family who have been making authentic bells and ritual items for more than 50 years. We have waited more than 18 months to have 10 bells made in this quality and as far as we know this is the first time iron handled bell and vajra sets have ever been offered for sale in or outside of Asia. Each iron handle and vajra are carved entirely by hand and this requires incredible skill as iron is notoriously difficult to work with. Since there are few who can successfully undertake this kind of workmanship, we are incredibly fortunate to be able to offer these.  This particular style is favoured by Nyingma & Kagyu practitioners as it has the traditional hole in the handle that represents the wisdom of emptiness. Iron has also been a sought after metal for ritual phurbas and vajras since ancient times and very precious pieces are believed to be made from meteoric iron. Iron has a unique feel and is often seen to have a more wrathful quality than other metals.

These bells display a protective vajra fence in between a double row of pearls. Above this are the traditional row of dharma wheels (dharmachakra) and this represents Buddha Shakyamuni's path to enlightenment. Above this is a another row of vajras that symbolise the 16 emptinesses. Above this is an eight petalled lotus seat for the eight bodhisattvas and their consorts. The five prongs of the vajra represent the five wisdoms and the five Buddha families.
They have a vibrant sustained tone of excellent quality!

Origin: Hand crafted in Dehradun, India
Size: The bells are approximately 20 cms high and
the vajras are approximately 14 cms x 4.5 cms
Quality: 5 metal bronze alloy bell and hand carved iron handle and iron vajra.

Tip: If you notice rust appearing on any iron ritual item, simply use a toothbrush (used for this purpose only) to gently apply oilive oil to the affected areas and then remove any residue with a soft cloth.

A Chöd damaru that is hand crafted for practitioners who are serious about using the most authentic ritual instruments.

What makes these drums so different from other Chöd damarus in the marketplace?

  • The sound is unsurpassed!
  • Each drum is created using accurate and traditional centuries old methods.
  • Only fine quality Bhutanese Sengdeng (Acacia) wood is used and not cheaper woods that are seen on other drums.
  • Only natural unpainted Bhutanese cloud skins are used. The skins are buried in the ground with copper and other precious substances. This process can take many weeks to complete and the skins turn a beautiful cloudy green. It increases the longevity of the skins and also empowers them for years of ritual use. It also gives each drum its own unique character.
  • The skins will maintain their tightness, unlike many other damaru skins in the marketplace.
  • On the inside of the drum accurate mantras are applied, this empowers the drum to be used for ritual practice.
  • Each drum has a suede or leather handle which helps give comfortable support when playing for long periods. Cowrie shells are also stitched into the band that wraps round the drum.
  • Includes a high quality brocade damaru tail.
  • Includes a very fine brocade carrying case which helps protect the drum when not in use. Each case is lined with red felt, which helps absorb moisture.
