Green Tara

Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha

Revered as compassionate mother of all beings, powerful protectress, and subjugator of destructive forces, Greet Tara manifests in many forms to save all who call upon her from the eight great terrors that afflict body and mind.

In each hand she holds the stems of rare lotuses that blossom at her shoulders, and extends the compassion and mercy they signify with her right hand held in the gift-bestowing gesture. Her right foot, supported by a lotus, is held in the attitude of descending, suggesting Tara's readiness to respond.

Here Tara is surrounded by eight manifestations, each appears within a specific type of terror to remove fear, empower prayer, and light the path to liberation. Below Tara, guarding the meditator's entrance to her mandala, is the fierce protectoress Lhamo.

Above is Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Light.” -back description

Homage to the Great Sage Shakyamuni

This sacred image of the Buddha, carved in the tenth century during the reign of the Pala kings, was for centuries a central focus of devotion for pilgrims who worshiped in the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya. Later invasions disrupted Buddhism in northern India; the temple was abandoned and its images suffered from neglect. Now restored and once again honored by pilgrims who gather here from all parts of the world, the temple and its sacred images have been revitalized. At the place where the Buddha was enlightened, they stand as beacons of knowledge and compassion, broadcasting from the most holy place blessings of harmony and peace to beings everywhere.” -back description

Lapis Mani Mantra - Fine Art Print by Tashi Mannox

"Lapis Mani Mantra" - Fine Art Print by Tashi Mannox

Historically, sacred mantras were held in the highest regard and honored in pure gold lettering on tablets of precious lapis lazuli. Bowing to this ancient tradition, Tashi Mannox has created the Mani mantra oṃ maṇipadme hūṃ according to the classical divine proportionate construction of the Tibetan Uchen script, that sits upon a flowing lapis like background.

The Mani mantra is deep and vast in meaning; it said to have great benefit to who speaks, hears or sees this liberating mantra that is the embodiment of infinite understanding engendering impartial loving-kindness.

Such sacred mantras are usually placed high within a household, especially above a doorway that one often passes through, which is considered to bless, purify and protect the family members and their environment.

Primordial Purity, Golden World
Primordial Purity, Golden World by Tashi Mannox

Primordial Purity, Golden World

The universal basis of primordial purity (of our mind).

The glorious golden ground (of our world)

Dutch gold and copper leaf on a ground of acrylic paint

on heavy water colour paper

The splendor of the universe, our world, from where we are born and return, can be experienced by us from a sacred viewpoint of our innate purity that is naturally within us. This interrelationship between heaven and earth evokes the creativity of man, expressed in words and the beauty of calligraphy.

The uppermost line of Tibetan cursive script that soars high in the sky translates as “universal, common ground of primordial purity”. Below, as if dancing among the swirling energy of the earth are black letters that translates as “the mythological golden basis of our known world, glorious and magnificent”.

The first dark maroon characters read ‘Namo’ in Lantsa script and this translates as ‘homage’. At the end of the prayer is a ‘full stop’ character in the same Lantsa script. The smaller lettering in red at the end of the refuge prayer, translates as “The Four Fold Refuge”

The four objects of refuge are highlighted throughout the main body of calligraphy in rust red mineral paint that read Lama, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha’

Seated on lotus flowers are the four essential words: Love, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity. These are displayed in a style of blue Drutsa script. Below these four lotus flowers are foot notes in a rare round tailed Drutsa script from 14th century Tibet. This translates as:

“According to the Mahayana meditation that focuses on measureless beings, there are four states of mind that set in motion measureless punya (auspicious or positive effects or states). Namely: measureless love, measureless compassion, measureless joy and measureless equanimity”.

The Great Perfection Ah
The Great Perfection Aa

The central character illuminates white and is resplendently pure among aura like swirls spinning from the blackness of limitless space. Seen in the classical Uchen script, it is the last letter of the Tibetan alphabet, from which all other sounds are produced. It is considered essentially pure and stainless. It represents the ultimate true nature of mind, which is inherent in all beings.

Opportunity
Opportunity

The words ‘seize the moment’ in the Tibetan Dru-tsa script is depicted wrapped with the stems and leaves of five different coloured lotus flowers. Each of these flower represent the five Buddha families. The analogy of the five flower buds is the opportunity to transform the five negative emotions, pride, attachment, anger,  jealousy and stupidity, into the five wisdoms represented in the manifestation of the five Buddha families and their corresponding colours.  As any plant that will take root and blossoms in slightest of conducive conditions, its leaves hooked and curl to grab as opportunists, just like every moment of life with the experience of karmic fruition, is an opportunity to take hold and transform a negative situation into a positive advantage.

Transformation
Transformation

Illuminated Iconographic Tibetan Calligraphy

“Transformation"

This piece shows three rare blue lotus flowers representing the ‘past, present and future’ the passing of time.

This illuminated calligraphy translates as ‘Transformation’, the script style is called Dru tsha; a cursive script traditionally used for free style Tibetan calligraphy.
‘Transformation’ is made up of two words in Tibetan, the first word sprul meaning emanate, incarnate, manifest. The second bsgyur meaning change, transform.

The particular technique used here is brushed in a resist leaving the natural colour of the paper.

In Eastern iconography, the lotus flower is often symbolic of purity and is considered   an example of transformation, feeding from the composting mud at the bottom of a lake or pond, transforming into the most pure and glorious of flowers, standing proud high above the water surface, un-splashed by the (Samsaric) bustle of pond life.
