The Serkyem is most commonly used in making tea offerings to Dharma protectors such as Mahakala. It is comprised of two pieces: a larger dish-shaped bowl with a raised base and a smaller raised offering bowl. The latter is placed in an upright position in the larger dish (as shown) when the offering is being made. When not in use, the smaller offering bowl is placed upside down in the larger bowl. Food offerings can also be placed in the larger dish when in use.
