A rare nephrite jade Milarepa statue that is a replica of a statue that once belonged to the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. It is carved entirely by hand and is one of only a handful that were commissioned. Stone statues of Tibetan deities and lamas are particularly hard to aquire. The jade material was sourced in Canada and then shipped to Thailand where it was carved by a master artisan. The actual nephrite jade used in this piece is from the same source as the jade used to craft the famous 2.7 metre high Jade Buddha for World Peace.

Milarepa was famous for his spontaneous songs of realisation. During his 12 years of strict retreat he subsisted on nettle tea and eventually this turned his skin green, hence the reason he is often depicted as being green in colour. Crafting his image from green jade is therefore particularly appropriate.
