Jasper is a form of chalcedony and was a very sought after material in antiquity. The material is opaque and the colour is usually red, yellow, brown or green. The rarest colour is blue. Green jasper is known to have been used to make bow drills in Mehrgarh (present day Pakistan) between 4th-5th millennium BCE.
