Jasper is a form of chalcedony and was a very sought after gemstone in antiquity. It is an opaque material and the colour is usually red, yellow, brown or green. The rarest colour is blue. Green jasper is known to have been used to make bow drills in Mehrgarh (present day Pakistan) between 4th-5th millennium BCE.

A delightful graduated strand of ancient Nepalese jasper disc beads with a single ancient Suleimani agate or Bhaisajyaguru bead. Ranging in colour from pale greens to dark greens and deep earthen reds to black.

Condition: Very good with minor weathering commensurate with age.
The length of the strand is approx 20 inches.
The largest disc measure approx 13 mm and the smallest are 5 mm.

A delightful yellowish brown British jasper bead that has been hand carved to display a raised Buddha. The carving represents the Buddha Ratnasambhava, one of the five Dhyani Buddhas. Buddha Ratnasambhava's name means 'Jewel Born' and he is yellow in colour.
