Nagarjuna was to become one of the great Indian Mahasiddhas and along with his disciple Āryadeva, he is credited with founding the Mādhyamaka school of Mahāyāna Buddhism. His name means "one who has conquered, tamed, and gained mastery over the Nagas. This thangka shows him seated and being offered a Dharma text by a Naga.
