When we first set up our Dharma store we were the only website in the world offering authentic Bhutanese incense. It was hard to source and few people had heard of it. In the past few years it has become more widely known, however, many fake Bhutanese incense brands have started to appear in the marketplace and unfortunately the majority of online stores offer this quality. The imitation brands are made in Nepal from lower grade ingredients and it is often poorly prepared. Genuine Bhutanese incense has an unsurpassed reputation for being the finest of the Himalayan herbal incenses. You will immediately notice the difference between Bhutanese incense and the regular Tibetan incense we see coming out of Nepal and India. The sticks are often much thicker and have a slower burn time -- and of course the richness and feel of the scent is unsurpassed.
Bhutanese incense is prepared using 100% natural ingredients that are collected in the Himalayan regions and prepared in Bhutan. This typically includes a blend of anywhere between 40 and 100 herbs, flowers, barks, roots, spices, fruits and minerals. Only the finest medicinal grade ingredients are used. The Nado company also works closely with local community based education and their mission is to educate plant collectors in sustainable gathering and the preservation of Bhutanese wildlife.

Vajrayana Buddhism was introduced to Bhutan in the 8th century CE. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche also instructed the Tibetan King Trisong Detsen to have 108 temples built all over the Himalayas. Doing so would aid in subduing a demoness and allow for the construction of Samye Temple in Tibet. Two of the 108 temples are in Bhutan, one in Paro and the other in Bumthang. Buddhism continues to be the principal religion of Bhutan and the main monasteries are sponsored by the Bhutanese royal family and the Bhutanese government. This support ensures that ancient traditions such as incense making have remained pure to this day.
Important: We import our Nado Poi Zokhang range (regarded as the best Bhutanese incense available) directly from Bhutan and the incense makers themselves. This means you can have confidence that our incense is 100% genuine. If you are buying Nado Bhutanese incense from a supplier who imports theirs from Nepal or India, it is possible it is an imitation brand and therefore inferior!
The Nado Poi Zokhang range is completely free from animal products!
