A hand beaten Tibetan silver spoon. The bowl and handle is beautifully engraved with a floral design. In the centre of the spoon handle is a raised vajra with space for a cabachon. Spoons such as this have been valued for centuries in Tibet and the Himalayan regions.

Spoons were typically used for taking medicinal remedies and silver was considered to have special antiseptic properties. The silver itself may have been heirloomed within a family for many centuries before it was eventually used in the making of a spoon or other utensils. It means a spoon may once have started life as several pieces of silver jewellery.
