Description

A lovely well proportioned hand beaten Tibetan silver spoon. The bowl is engraved and the apex of the handle diplays a flaming jewel design. In the centre of the spoon handle is a raised turquoise cabachon. Spoons such as this have been valued for centuries in Tibet and the Himalayan regions.

Spoons were typcially used for taking medicinal remedies and silver was considered to have special antiseptic properties. The silver itself may have been heirloomed within a family for many centuries before it was eventually used in the making of a spoon or other utensils. It means a spoon may once have started life as several pieces of silver jewellery.
