A lovely well proportioned hand beaten Tibetan silver spoon. The bowl and handle is beautifully engraved. In the centre of the spoon handle is a raised coral bead cabachon. Spoons such as this have been valued for centuries in Tibet and the Himalayan regions. The reverse has a suspension hole to allow it to be worn or hung from a cord. The apex of the handle displays a lotus and vase auspicious symbol.

Spoons were typcially used for taking medicinal remedies and silver was considered to have special antiseptic properties. The silver itself may have been heirloomed within a family for many centuries before it was eventually used in the making of a spoon or other utensils. It means a spoon may once have started life as several pieces of silver jewellery.
