Description

A lovely well proportioned Tibetan silver spoon. The handle is engraved with a snake-like design at the apex. Spoons such as this have been valued for centuries in Tibet and the Himalayan regions. The reverse appears to have a faint Tibetan inscription.

Spoons were typcially used for taking medicinal remedies and silver was considered to have special antiseptic properties. The silver itself may have been heirloomed within a family for many centuries before it was eventually used in the making of a spoon or other utensils. It means a spoon may once have started life as several pieces of silver jewellery.
