Ancient Decorated Carnelian with Cuneiform Script
Our Price: £795.00

A very rare large ancient carnelian bead displaying what appears to be cuneiform characters. This writing system dates back to Mesopotamian times and is as early as 3000 BCE and as late as 100 CE. Unfortunately the meaning on this bead has yet to be revealed. The colour of this bead (dark lines on pinkish grey body) indicates that it experienced some fire damage at some point in its history. It could have been overheated by the bead maker when applying the decoration or perhaps it happened as the result of a cremation. There is some weathering to the body and a few surface digs, but it still remains robust and very suitable to be worn. This is the only bead of its type we have handled or ever seen for sale, so it is rare amongst carnelians.
Condition: Very good. No breaks or repairs. Provenance: Ex Rita Okrent Collection Western Asiatic Age: 1000 BCE + or - 38 mm x 14 mm

Large Bow Shaped Stone Bead

Our Price: £295.00

A superb bow shaped stone bead of rare appearance and size. The bead has been crafted from stone (possibly chlorite schist) and displays a band of quartz. This bead is in perfect condition. It was originally purchased strung with ancient Pyu beads. This is the only example of a bow shaped bead made from this material that we have seen. It is therefore difficult to say whether it is genuinely ancient. Large bow shaped agate beads have certainly been found in Burma and some may be well over 2000 years old. Whether this bead was originally from Burma or was traded from elsewhere is unknown. It is a very handsome one of a kind bead and would make a stunning focal bead on necklace.

Antique Pumtek Stone Bead with tiger Stripe design

Our Price: £250.00

A highly collectible large Pumtek stone bead with the classic Tiger stripe design. This is believed to be an antique bead (possibly ancient).
Origin: Burma 44 mm x 11 mm Condition: Excellent
Pumtek are decorated stone beads that originate from Burma. Some are ancient, some are antique and some are early to late 20th century creations. Pumtek means buried thunderbolt and are highly prized by the Chin tribe of Burma. The majority of these beads are made from silicified wood in the form of opal or chalcedony. By forming in this manner the original form and structure of the wood is often preserved. This is why many Pumtek beads appear to display a woody grain.

New Six Diamond Eye dZi Bead

Our Price: £200.00

RESERVED!
A rare new dZi bead that was sourced several years ago from a bead dealer in China, although it is likely it was created in India. We first noticed these beads appear in Nepal around 8 years ago and they were then being sold as ancient. They also had a selling price of more than $1000 each. They are interesting because the agate material appears to be be old, however, the decoration is a recent addition. In the last couple of years they have completely disappeared from Nepal, leading us to believe that not many of this particular type were created. This is certainly one of the most collectible new dZi beads you are likely find. This opaque agate bead displays six diamond shaped eyes and a further 6 triangles or mountain peaks.
